E-town Open Mic With A Twist

The 7th edition of the E-town open mic was hosted on Saturday at Baron hotel fused with the annual Halloween festival. The event was glamorous as talented creatives turned up to showcase their prowess in the lyrical field.

Hosted by Emperor- Eldoret's finest designer and Lead Creative- the event was themed with traditional/African feel and taste. I got the opportunity to interview him and I was excited with the aspirations that open mic was rooted in.

Uncensored: What is E-town Open Mic? Emperor: E-town open mic with a twist was founded by Emperor of emperors house of fashion and Brersaw of symphony media. It is a free platform for creatives to come to showcase their talents. It brings together rappers, spoken word enthusiasts and karaoke lovers. Uncensored: What made you organize the event? E: Eldoret is rich in terms of talent but we Lack spaces where artists can come interact and build on their talents, I also wanted to empower these artists and the best way is to enable them to work on themselves and the art they do. Uncensored: This doesn't seem to be the first event, how many editions have you had so far? E: You are right. This is the 7th successful edition of the E-town open mic. we've had the opportunity to nurture young and talented artists since we started and the experience has been incredible. Uncensored: How would you rate the turn-up? Considering the event happened on a busy weekend schedule? E: The turn out was quite satisfactory and encouraging compared to the past editions. We had guests who just came to watch and the artists who performed. The number was promising as we recorded quite an increase and this is positive- headlining the talent in the city of champions. Uncensored: Do you think this is a great way for artists to connect? E: Absolutely yes! It's one of the best places to unwind and connect with other creatives, if not the best artists hang out joint. We have seen new friendships being built, collaborations among the artists as well and growth individually in an artist whether its stage performance, style of writing, confidence in their art among others. Uncensored: Where do you think open mic will be in the next 1 year? E: I believe that we all start from somewhere. When I look back at the first edition, I can't believe we've achieved so much in such a short period of time. I believe Open Mic will be one of the most sought after creatives hang out and talent nurturing home. We will help invent the next sauti Sol, kaligraph Jones, naiboi, Churchill and the likes of other great names in different art fields. Uncensored: As a designer and prominent creative in Eldoret, do you think artists are getting the right audience? E: From open mic yes they get the right audience, The problem with Eldoret is that the support from the vaster Creatives Industry is rarely there. DJs rarely play our music even though we make it available to them, clubs will also prefer to focus on Nairobi and international artists rather than Eldoret ones and most people in Eldoret don't listen to music/content from the Eldoret artists while most of them are really entertaining.

Uncensored: Finally, tell us three interesting facts about yourself. E: Most people in Eldoret think am just a fashion designer but am more than that. I'm a vocalist and used to sing long before I got into fashion. I tend to focus more on fashion because of my undying passion. I write music as well as scripts and stories. I'm a minimalist too. Apart from clothes, I'm not such a big fan of things, as I like to keep it subtle. Lastly, I believe my art or creativity is my greatest wealth and its the best thing I can leave behind after am gone. You can follow Emperor house of Fashion on Social Media @
